Outreach Ministry of St. John's Lutheran Church of Cedarbrook
Adopt-A-Highway
In the fall and spring, we pick up trash from a 3-mile section of highway 210 just west of the church. Clean-up is always followed by a potluck.
Community Meal
At least once a year, we serve the Community Meal hosted by First Lutheran Church in Aitkin.
Community Worship Services
Pastor Sarah and members of St. John's lead worship services at Aitkin Health Services and DAC Works on the 4th Thursday of each month.
God's Work Our Hands
The second Sunday of September is the ELCA's God's Work Our Hands Sunday. On this day, ELCA congregations around the nation participate in service projects to benefit their communities. This past year, St. John's of Cedarbrook assisted HOPE, our local domestic violence agency, with their annual mailing and created Domestic Violence awareness ribbons to be distributed around town.
Haunting for Hunger
On the two Sundays preceding Halloween, we take a special offering for ELCA World Hunger.
SouperBowl
On the Sunday of the Superbowl, we join with Christians around the nation in the SouperBowl, a drive for funds and non-perishables for hunger ministries. At St. John's, our special offering goes to ELCA World Hunger.
Quilting Ministry
On Mondays, October-May, our quilters create quilts to be distributed to HOPE, to Lutheran World Relief, to graduates and new members, and to other agencies and individuals as needs arise. Every November, the quilters conduct a silent auction of two beautiful quilts; 100% of the funds raised go to Aitkin Area Food Shelf.
